Over 50 new families who have moved to Marion since November have received a warm and friendly welcome from a personal greeting service sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and Marion merchants. This service, originated as a project of 20th Century Club, is called the "Welcome Basket.

Three coaches were overturned and eight other cars were derailed when the Rock Island Railroad's crack Twin Star Rocket jumped the tracks at Peabody at about 1 a.m. Monday. Only the lead engine unit and the last car in the train remained on the tracks. Twenty-four of the 84 persons aboard the streamliner were injured enough to be taken to a hospital for treatment, and only one of them was seriously injured.

Charles Niederhauser, Earl Linn, Ollie Wight, and Charles Brannon of Burns were in St. Joseph, Mo., Saturday and Sunday for a reunion of Company M veterans of World War I.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wolf celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on Saturday and were guests of honor Friday evening at a potluck supper given by their square dance club at the recreation hall at the lake.

Beverly Rundle celebrated her 11th birthday Sept. 16 with a party in the city park. Guests included Minnie Johnson, JoAnn Magee, Tina Holmes, Shirley Bredemeier, Barbara Weber, Sandra Sawyer, Judy Broadstreet, Donna Helmer, Pamela Domke, Cheryl Schimpf, Gwen Broz, Janice Hoffman, Ruth Johnson, Charlotte Poppe, Jackie Evans, JoAnn Stroda, Vicky, Paul, and Belton Rundle.

The lot immediately north of Mrs. Agnes Price's residence on North Cedar is being cleared this week and H.A. Warneke, who purchased the lot, expects to begin the building of a new home soon.

If you missed the aurora borealis Sunday night, you missed a most gorgeous display of northern lights seen in a long time. In the beginning, the whole northern horizon was bright with light which turned to a brilliant crimson later in the night, almost reaching the zenith. People who were up all night stated they could be seen almost till daybreak.
