Rev. Fr. Matthew Wyse, who comes to Marion from chaplaincy in the hospital at Winfield, has been installed as pastor of St. Mark filling the place of Rev. Fr. Paul Meier, who had been transferred to St. Marys at Chase. Fr. Wyse is a native a England, born in Liverpool.
Ezra Bernhardt announced this week that he has sold his popular Dairy Queen business in Marion to Ezra Schimpf, well known farmer from northwest of town. The business will change hands officially this coming Monday.
The Grapes School cake walk was well attended last Monday evening. Mrs. Lee Bowers won the grocery box, Vernon Bowers, the angel food cake, and Joan Ward of Herington, the candy.
Miss Verla Mae Bernhardt, youngest daughter of Mrs. Mary Bernhardt, exchanged double ring marriage vows with James Cott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cott, Lincolnville. Rev. Leonard B. Hinz officiated at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the sanctuary of the Strassburg Baptist Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Schafers and Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Schafers have extended an invitation to friends for a wedding dance at the lake hall Saturday evening, Oct. 10.
The Steiner Brothers have been busy custom corn picking the past week. A few of the farmers began to husk corn by hand. The strong winds have caused the corn to fall from the dry shocks and such fields will have to be picked by hand. The rain clouds that hung over the state Saturday did not give moisture to many parts. Many are hoping that a good rain will come soon.
Georgene Tajchman was guest of honor at a bridal shower Sept. 28 in the Marion City Building. Hostesses were Rosie Vlk, Barbara Jirak, Betty Holub, Delores Bezdek, and Jean Herbel.
Sgt. Marion L. Piper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Piper, Florence, was reported in a critical condition Sunday in Los Angeles, where he was robbed and shot twice by two thugs. Piper arrived from Korea Sept. 21, was expected to be discharged soon. Piper, who had been wounded three times in action in Korea, was shot through the neck and head by a sub-machine gun.
