Friday of last week was Initiation Day for freshmen at Marion High School. They had to back through doors, shake hands with any of their superiors at any time, and wear the ridiculous attire that was prescribed. Girls wore men's long underwear, one high heel, once low heel. They sported anklets of different colors and their face and hair were made up on one side, left plain and disarranged on the other. Men's hats completed their ensemble. Boys wore gunny sacks and unmated shoes. There knobby legs were encase in women's hose to the knees and painted on mustaches adorned their upper lips. Both boys and girls carried pails containing a brick.

A special U.S. postage stamp, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Future Farmers of America, went on sale Wednesday and Postmaster Harold Keazer showed a page of the special issue to the following FFA members: Donald Longhofer, Max Hayen, Joe Sklenar, Roger Richmond, Jon Soyez, Roger Pankratz, and instructor R.C. Stevens.
