The Legion of Merit, one of the Army's highest award to non-combatants, was awarded posthumously last week to the late Chaplain Emil J. Kapaun, hero Pilsen priest whose fame continues to spread across the country. He had previously been given the Distinguished Service Cross and oak leaf cluster.

Marion Boy Scouts received awards at an impressive Court of Honor Monday evening at the American Legion Hall. Scouts receiving badges of rank were Lane Broadstreet, Bill Good, Earl Winter and Michael Seaton, Star Scouts; Junior Wiebe. Life Scout; and Larry Evans, Marion Kelsey, James Melton and Steven Seaton. Tenderfoot pins.

The Marion Gift Shop, owned and operated by Mrs. Albert Bernhardt, will open in Marion this coming Saturday. Mrs. Bernhardt has remodeled the east room of their building and added attractive fixtures which are well stocked with all types of gift items.

Mrs. Jack Helmer, assisted by Mrs. Gene Boettcher, entertained the following children and their mothers for her daughter, Shirley Ann's, second birthday Friday afternoon: Linda and Brenda Helmer, Vickie Boese, Susan, Becky and Janie Lentz, Stanley, Steven, and Gregory May, Galen and Ginger Helmer, Karen Keazer, and Kendall Helmer.

Miss Shirley Tiemeier, whose marriage to Jerry Tuell will take place January 2, was complimented with a miscellaneous shower Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Milton Tuell, Wichita. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Dale Tuell and Mrs. Leon McCarty.

Mr. and Mrs. Rosse B. Case were hosts to members of the Delta Deck Club Saturday evening at the home of her mother, Mrs. Ella Socolofsky. High score at cards was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Yaussi, low to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Meier, and Mrs. John Whitlock, retained the traveling prize.

Pvt. Harold G. Vinduska has recently begun his eight weeks of Army basic training in the Anti-aircraft Artillery Replacement Training Center, Fort Bliss, Texas.
