The first four sections of bicycle stands was erected this week at the Marion National Bank side of Main and Third streets, for use of kids who ride their bicycles to downtown stores or the picture show. The second one will be located at once at the Farmers & Drovers side of the intersection. At each location two parking staffs have been eliminated. The stands are a futherance of the city's effort to eliminate the danger of sidewalk parking of bicycles.
Duane Fike, son of Mrs. Vinnie Fike, Ramona, is editor-in-chief of the Spectator, a weekly newspaper published by McPherson College students. He is a junior English major, a member of Alpha Delta, honorary journalistic fraternity, and Alpha Psi Omega, honorary dramatic fraternity.
Adopted as of January 1 are the following salaries in the administrative department of the City of Marion: City clerk, per month $300; City treasurer, $200 per year; Police judge, $200 per year; Fire chief $150 per year; Mayor, $300 per year; Commissioners, $250 per year; City attorney, $50 per month.
Those who turned in to a Wichita TV station Saturday evening enjoyed a half hour of music by the music department of Wichita University. It was especially interesting because Lenore Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Wheeler, was a member of the ladies glee club which gave the greater part of the program. Diana Herbert, Wichita, a music major at the university and a former Marion girl, also was a member of the group.
Members of the freshman high school class enjoyed a skating party at the rink Monday evening. They were accompanied by their sponsor, Leslie Wiebe.
Carol Krispense of Marion, a student at Ottawa University and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Krispense of rural Marion, is a member of the cast of Thornton Wilder's one-act play, "The Happy Journey."
Lloyd E. Davies, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Davies, Marion, was appointed mail clerk of his company while undergoing recruit training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He was chosen for the position in recognition of leadership qualities displayed while in recruit training.
Gus Newlon, former manager of the Marion Duckwall store, and for the past four years manager at Ellsworth, will assume managership of a new Duckwall store in Hutchinson next week.
