akery here is announced this week. They will re-open January 2 and remain open indefinitely. The owners have announced they have secured help, so will not close the store.

Coon's Restaurant, well-known Marion eating place was sold the past week by Mr. and Mrs. Jess Coons to Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Ensey, Hutchinson. Mr. Ensey has had 15 years experience in the restaurant business as a cook and a baker. He is a half brother of Dr. T.C. Ensey, Marion physician.

Miss Kay Navrat, Marion, freshman student at the College of Emporia, is the composer of the winning hymn for Spiritual Emphasis Week at the college. The student body selected the winning hymn in an all school election held recently.

George Rhodes, well-known Marion resident, recently completed his 40th year as an employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. George has spent all the 40 years here in Marion County, a short time at Florence and Peabody, and the balance of it with headquarters in Marion.

Eight of the 5, 246 Kansas students enrolled at the University of Wichita this semester are residents of Marion. They are John Wayne Rupp and Marlys Jean Rupp, son and daughter of Mrs. Walter E. Rupp; John Patrick Heerey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey RR 1; Kenneth Gale Gardner, son of Hugh M. Gardner; Harold Eugene Ehrlich, son of Mrs. Lena Ehrlich; John Robert Childs, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Childs; Robert J. Navrat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Navrat, RR 4; and Lenore Ann Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Wheeler.

The Gnadenau Mennonite Church, south of Hillsboro, was completely destroyed by an uncontrollable fire early Christmas morning. The fire was discovered about 1 a.m. by a group of the church youth who had been singing Christmas carols in the neighborhood and at the church. Nothing was saved in the church and the loss was estimated at $25,000 or more.

Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hett are the parents of a boy born December 20 at St. Luke Hospital. Weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces, he has been named Eldon Leroy.

LaVern Hoffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl B. Hoffman, Marion, and Marion Summervill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill, Marion, are members of Emporia State Teachers College's band for 1956-57.

Paul Hein of Durham, collected $50 at this week's Cash Day drawing. Not present to collect their prizes were C.J. "Shorty" Ross, Marion; Claude Noll, Florence; George Baxter, Marion; and Marvin T. Schmidt, Marion.
