The question of the location of the new highway shops for this district, and the improvement and routing of U.S.-50N through Marion was definitely settled this week by an official announcement of the State Highway Commission. The new shops will be built on the east edge of Marion, the highway will be improved and resurfaced in its present location and both projects will be started at once.

J.E. "Jerry" Mullikin, superintendent of the Marion County Park and Lake for the past 26 years, died of cancer at his home at the lake Monday evening, Feb. 27.

Closing of the J.C. Penney department store at the end of business on Saturday, March 17, was announced today by Ried Crawford, manager of the Marion store.

Wayne Colle, general agent for the Farm Bureau Insurance Services in Marion County, was presented the Most Valuable Agency Award for 1955 at a statewide meeting held Feb. 14 in Wichita.

An Emporia State College discussion group won first place in a discussion group in sectional competition and is currently pitted against regional contestants from the universities of Nebraska, Virginia and Notre Dame. Roger Hannaford is a member of the discussion group from Emporia State College which won the sectional competition. The question discussed has to do with the supreme court's decision involving race integration in the public schools.

The Pilsen Eagles, Pilsen's grade school basketball team, won the North County Elementary League title. Members of the team are Ronnie Stika, Bob Makovec, Frankie Klenda, Laverne Bina, Martin Bina, Lester Bina, Kenny Vinduska, Paul Tajchman, Robert Konarik, Loren Rudolph, Dennis Steiner and Jimmy Bosh. Bob Klenda is their coach.
