Selection of the two Marion High School delegates to the annual Boys State Week at Wichita is announced this week. The boys are Warren Gardner, son of Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Gardner, and John Minear, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Minear.
O.J. Shields, prominent north Marion County farmer and livestock man, announced this week his candidacy for the office of state representative on the Democrat ticket.
Drought conditions account for the temporary closing this week of the several alfalfa mills owned by Archer-Daniels-Midland Company. Included are plants at Marion, Mentor, Sedgwick and Eureka. If the drought condition changes for the better, then the mills will re-open next year.
Miss Marjorie Collett was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Clyde Dunn. Mrs. Wm. Spinden, Mrs. Dale Ecker and Mrs. Jim Hett were co-hostesses.
Margaret McClain invited four of her friends for dinner at Kingfisher's Inn Saturday evening to help her celebrate her birthday. Places were marked for Mary Lou Conyers, Margie Bernhardt, Elda Pankratz, Maxine Hinz and Margaret.
The Youngtown school and teacher, Mrs. Collett, have planned a Play Day for Friday and have invited Antelope, Elk, Pleasant View and Loveless schools to participate in the contests.
A group of young folks gathered at the home of LaVonda Hinz Saturday evening to celebrate her birthday. Games were played and a wiener roast was enjoyed later by LaVonda, Donna Kelsey, Sue Haizlip, Patsy Slusser, Carol Krispense, Juanita Kelsey, Donna Stenzel, Naomi Stenzel, Maxine Hinz, Jerry Kline, John Kline, Garry Vogel, Kenneth Meisinger, Dwight Kruse, Richard Schlehuber, Larry Schlehuber, and Richard Vogel.
