The wheat harvest in Marion County is adding up to be one of the most successful in many years, according to official reports. The average yield will be about 22 bushels per acre, compared with last year's average of 13 and a 10-year average of 17.2.
Mrs. Joe Atherton entertained for her son Charles' eighth birthday Wednesday afternoon by inviting in a number of his friends for a party. Those present included Darold Longhofer, Bobby Hoch, John Thies, Wallie Slusser, George Jackson, Bob Good, Sam Bernhardt, Bob Weber, Eddie Atherton, and Richard Hume.
Little Melissa Ann Hett arrived at St. Luke Hospital June 25, making happy her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hett. She weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Hett and Mrs. John Manuel.
Mrs. Bertha Mailen announced this week that she has leased the Del Mar Café from Ruby Laudner and will take over operation the first of July. Mrs. Mailen has been working at the Del Mar for some time and has been in café work most of her life. The Del Mar will continue to serve the Kiwanis noon luncheon on Mondays.
Pilsen news — Anita Rudolph enjoyed a birthday party with several of her schoolmates and friends Sunday afternoon. The guest list included Mary Agnes Bina, Doris Holub, Rose Mary Holub, Nancy Klenda, Mary Ann Svitak, Claudine and Ella Mae Tajchman, Joyce Urbanek, Theresa Stika, Lucille Rudolph, Angela Stika and Vickie Rudolph helped in serving refreshments.
The summer camp-out for different Cub dens will be held this Friday night. Den 1 will have their camp at the home of Harold Bowers at 404 Arbor; Den 3 will camp out at the Wayne Colle home at 425 Elm; Den 4's camping ground will be at the Ed Westerhaus backyard at 325 N. Cedar; and Den 6 will be at the home of E.D. Longhofer, 400 South Fourth.
A dance will be held at the Marion VFW clubrooms on Independence Day eve. Music will be by The Stardusters.
