Miss Jeanette Russell was crowned Marion County Fair Queen for 1955 Friday evening as part of the closing festivities on the last day of the annual fair. Jeanette is a senior at Marion High School and represented the Marion Kiwanis Club as her sponsor. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Russell.
Gus Newlon, former manager of Duckwall's here, now of Ellsworth, did a swim marathon recently when he swam across Kanopolis Lake, the result of a taunting wager of $40 that he couldn't do it.
Rex Siebert, well-known farmer living near Marion, has developed a portable livestock table that is turning into quite a business both in sales of this new piece of equipment as well as calling for him to do an expert job of "manicuring" livestock for show purposes. The table is called "Spring-O-Matic."
Six truck drivers for the local plant of the Seymour Packing Company were presented this week with annual Safe Driving Awards for the company by Manager Alex Mehlinger. C.J. Ecker and Rudy Deines both received "Champion Driver" awards for having driven 16 consecutive years without an accident. Henry Sklenar, Harry Hamm, Wm. May and Henry Klose were other drivers receiving awards.
Kreutziger School opened its term of school Monday morning with the following pupils: Ralph Klein, Steven Krispense, Chester Funk, Edward and Marvin Meisinger, Joan and Karen Ratzlaff, Rose Ann Melcher and Dean Pankratz.
The birthdays of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr., their little daughter Deborra, and Mrs. Case's brother Bob Hagans, were celebrated Sunday with a family gathering at the Case home.
