Marilyn Gaines of Peabody is the 1956 Queen of the Marion County Fair. Marilyn will be a junior this fall at Peabody High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gaines of Peabody.

A number of local organizations have joined the drive to provide a new municipal swimming pool for the community. This week, Kiwanis president, Rosse Case, appointed a special committee to inquire into details, costs of construction, recommended sizes, etc.. and of possibly carrying the question to a special vote at the November general election. This committee, chairmaned by Ed Sandwell, includes Fred Knalson, Ollie Wight, K.C. Wingerd, and Wharton Hoch, with ex-officio advise from Roger Morse and Ira Newcomer.

Almost 50 young readers followed the approved book list in the library's summer program. Completing the reading of 48 books were Sharon Nelson, Ruby Ann Winkley, John Hoover, Dicky Varenhorst, Jeannine Skibbe, Deanna Glover, Bill Winkley, Larry Glover, and Gwen Broz.

Rev. And Mrs. William M. Runyan, who "rode the circuit" for the Methodist churches by horse and buggy in the early days of their marriage, observed their 65th wedding anniversary not long ago in Galveston, Texas, where they are now living. They were married Aug. 18, 1891, in Marion.

Jeanette Russell, Phyllis Thies, Jerry Dieter and Dean Kelsey left today, Thursday for Enid, Okla., where they will attend Phillips University this winter.

A large blue and white lace and ribbon umbrella with pictures of the bride- and bridegroom-to-be, encircled with hearts, formed the centerpiece of the table where gifts were placed for Arlene Klein at the miscellaneous shower given in her honor at the Country Club last week by Carlita Bass, Roma Collett, Joyce Seibel and Jeanette Russell.

Everett Burkhead kept the booth at the county fair last week for the "blind-made" products and was in Wichita the first of this week to check in with headquarters on the business of the week.

Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Klenda and Nancy have returned from Detroit where Mr. Klenda attended the Knights of Columbus National Supreme Council Convention. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Konarik and Mary Theresa.
