Mayor Barrett received a call on Tuesday, shortly after noon, to order an air raid alert for Marion. Members of the local defense council have been expecting a surprise blackout, since the first one, two or three weeks ago, but had not expected a daytime alert call. Wardens, immediately upon word from Mayor Barrett, got into communication with their junior wardens and all the preliminary work of organization was quickly done. It is expected any time that another nighttime blackout will be ordered at an unannounced time.

At an adjourned day of District Court last week, Jacob Scheibel and Fred Klein were admitted to citizenship, having measured up to the qualifications set by the government in naturalizing aliens.

Ollie Wight, county salvage chairman, says that boxes have been put at Duckwall's, Wolfe's, Penney's, Schoneman's, and Buck's, for nylon and silk hose which are badly needed for processing into war materials. Women with old stockings of these materials put away are requested to get them out and donate them to the war effort.

Knitters may get yarn for soldier knitting from Mrs. Harry Harris. A new shipment has just arrived.

A representative of the U.S. District Attorney's office, out of Wichita, was in Marion Wednesday, and with Sheriff George Gephart went to the home of a member of Jehovah's Witnesses with a warrant charging him with failure to report "for work of National importance." He is the first person in this county arrested for failure to report for a draft call.

The Kaw Theatre announces in its program this week that there will be a show every Saturday afternoon. Bob Haas, who has been apprenticing in operating the projection machine, will run the pictures in the afternoon show which will start at one.

Pvt. Edward McGinness, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. McGinness of Aulne, who has been at the air base at Coffeyville, recently took an examination looking forward to officer's training and was one of six out of a class of 45 who passed. He will take training at Chanute Field, Ill.
