The Marion city defense council was organized Monday evening. Mr. Jacob Barrett, mayor, is chairman. Other officers are Randolph Carpenter, vice chairman; Leroy Priess, secretary and public utilities; Joe Swan, fire department; Jerry Hoffman, Boy Scouts; Ollie Wight, police department; Paul Shahan, first aid; Roscoe King, tire rationing.
The county treasurer's office has received a letter from the superintendent of the Kansas Vehicle Department asking everyone to cooperate in the collection of old license plates. They are asking everyone to leave their old tags at some designated place after the 1942 tags have been put on their cars. Up to date 1,740 car tags and 344 truck tags have been sold.
Mrs. Hattie Whitford and Mr. Robert Laughridge of Cedar Point were quietly married Dec. 23 at the Evangelical parsonage, Lincolnville, by Rev. Benton.
A new farm credit office was opened in Marion Dec. 22 in the Wheeler building across from the post office. Wm. R. Ward of Elmdale will have charge of the office. The office was opened to make it more convenient for farmers and stockmen in Marion, Chase, and Dickinson counties to obtain the services of the Production Credit Association.
A waffle supper complimenting Laverne Beneke was given Saturday evening at the Chas. Meyer home, Lost Springs. Guests were the Misses Eleanor Holmgren, Evelyn Beneke, and Evelyn Rindt, Wichita; Toby Miltz, Marion; Arlene Meyer, Kansas City, Mo.; Lucille Tiemeier; and Messrs. Garland Rucker, San Francisco, Calif.; Kenneth Herpich, Art Schultz, and Don Rindt, Wichita; Gary Funk, Hot Springs, Ark.; Max Loveless, Antelope; Jim Vinduska, Ted Haefner, and the hostesses, Florence and Pauline Meyer.
