A large number of parishioners surprised Msgr. Sklenar at the noon hour Sunday with a celebration in the Pilsen hall observing the 40 years he has served in the parish. Rev. Father Kapaun was toastmaster and many priests were in attendance.
Ralph Johnston and Rosse Case will leave Sunday for Wichita to attend the annual Boys State.
Orley Wilcox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilcox of Marion, has been selected as superintendent of schools at Mead.
Word has been received that Howard Schlingloff, reported missing after the fall of Corregidor over a year ago, is a Japanese prisoner. His sister, Mrs. Wallace Pierce of Arkansas City, received word a year ago that he was missing in action, but last week received the news that he was being held prisoner. Howard is a graduate of Marion High School and also the state college at Manhattan in engineering.
Miss Darlene Johnson and Miss Peggy Gerstenkorn will leave on Saturday to attend summer school at Emporia Teachers College.
Mr. and Mrs. S.W. Williamson, Mrs. Sarah Melton, and Mr. and Mrs. August Schoneman were dinner guests last Wednesday of Dr. and Mrs. R.R. Melton in honor of Robert's second birthday. A lovely birthday cake, baked by Mrs. Schoneman, was used as a centerpiece for the table.
The Sub Deb Club entertained with a formal dance Tuesday night at the Marion Country Club. The affair was a farewell for the senior girls who leave the club this year. The list includes Peggy Lou Gerstenkorn, Darlene Johnson, Florine Patton, Wilma Smithheisler, Florence Irene King, Jean Knight, Annabelle and Mary Alice Reese, Mary Ann Barrett, Virginia Ayler, and Joan Wight. Each girl invited a young man for her escort. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill and Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schroeder.
