Mr. Leslie Palmer, principal of the Hill grade building, asked for his release the past week so that he could accept a position of head of schools at Chase, Kansas, at a salary $500 more than he would receive here. He was granted the release and with his family, will move to Chase in August. Mr. Palmer has been on the faculty of the Marion schools for 16 years.
The Youth Fellowship of the Methodist church elected officers for the coming year at their regular meeting Sunday evening. The following were elected: president, Norma Jean Amick; commissioners: 1st, Jackie Hawbecker; 2nd, Mary Lou Williams; 3rd, Bob Hagans; 4th, Mary Helen King; secretary, Don Wright; treasurer, LaVerna Knight; pianist, Donna Hobein; chorus leader, Janice Socolofsky; reporter, Jean Hagans.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Meyer, north of Tampa, with five boys in the service, have been gladdened the past few weeks by two, who had furloughs to visit home: Pvt. Martin Meyer, who is stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri, and Lt. (j.g.) Anton A. Meyer, who was recently raised from Ensign. He is stationed at Ocracoke, N. Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Herbert are the parents of a daughter born on Thursday, May 27, at the Marion hospital. They named her Sylvia.
At eight o'clock Saturday evening, May 29, the Methodist church was the scene of a beautiful wedding ceremony when Miss Edris Joy Socolofsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Socolofsky, was united in marriage with Ensign Lawrence W. Norvell, son of Rev. and Mrs. P.D. Norvell of Eureka. The ceremony was performed by the groom's father.
No matter how much you flit about the country, "there's no place like home." A card from Charlie Brooker this week, who travels all over the map for Cessna, at Wichita, says to send his Record to Philadelphia. And adds "Ed Burkholder says there are just two towns in the U.S. — New York and Marion. For me, leave off New York."
