Mr. Harms, of the Wichita office in charge of rationing, met with various groups here in morning, afternoon, and evening meetings Wednesday to go over various phases of rationing rules. Registration for gas will be Nov. 9, 10, and 11 at the school houses. Rationing will start Nov. 22.
Jake Oblander left Wednesday for Russell where he will take up his new duties as manager of a hatchery. The family will remain here for the present.
A Civil Defense meeting was held at the city building Tuesday evening with approximately 50 men in attendance. Defense was planned not only for the local community but for the cooperation with defense centers, blackouts, etc.
Mrs. Ernestine Klopfstein-Chester, teacher in the first and second grades in Bown-Corby, has resigned effective Nov. 5. Her place will be filled by Miss Agnes Quiring who has been teaching the Quarry School. Miss Quiring, her mother, and sister have been living in the Fred Mehlinger apartment.
The county Selective Service has a call for Nov. 3 with the following from Marion to be inducted into the service: Robert Leland Buford, Fred Mohn Anderson, Billie Lee Wright, Harry Orlen Patterson, and Robert Carlton Kasper.
Mrs. R.H. Newsom invited a group of Roberta's friends Monday evening to celebrate her ninth birthday. Guests were Miss Mildred Pray, Miss Marjorie King, Kathryn Popp, Katherine Penner, Milly Lou Matthews, Janice Meisner, Juanita Ford, Patricia Henry, Cora McCarty, Joyce Marie Priess, Joyce Keazer, Ethel Hiebert, Patsy Rittel, Shirley Morehouse, James Propp, Richard Rhode, Eugene Christensen, and Dan Brodhead.
Mrs. Charles Batt went to Manhattan Friday and brought Ruth Elaine Kreuter, Frances Williams, and Dean Batt back for the weekend. Mrs. Earl Kreuter and Mrs. Paul Williams took them back Monday morning.
