Marion's public school will open for the 78th annual session Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, with more changes in the teaching staff than for several years, Supt. Maurice B. Myer announces. Due to war conditions, changes in the high school staff have been especially marked, no less than seven changes are being made. There are no changes in the grades.
Members of the Sub-Deb club entertained Friday evening with a formal party and dance at the Country Club. The party was a farewell to members of the club who graduated from high school this spring and therefore no longer eligible to be members. They are Misses Frances Nelson, Eileen Hoover, Kay Fisher, Hannah Mae Gunther, Corrine Pierce, and Verlea Oyer. Other guests of the club were the girls' escorts.
Mrs. Paul Siebert, Mrs. John Olsen, and Miss Maurine Hawbecker invited guests Thursday evening for a "military salute" party in honor of Mrs. Plato Kimble, who before her recent marriage was Miss Elizabeth Pierce. Guests were asked to bring a gift and come to the home of Mr. and Mrs. N.L. Olsen to salute a military bride.
Miss Marilyn Newsom left last Thursday for Nampa, Idaho, where she will stay with her aunt and attend high school this winter.
Miss Gayle Timberlake of Kansas City, who is spending two weeks in Marion with friends, has been the guest of honor at a number of affairs. Twenty young folks enjoyed a picnic and skating Friday night. On Wednesday of this week Miss Imogene Mathiot invited the following for a picnic supper at her home in the country: Jean Hagans, Janice Socolofsky, Gayle Timberlake, Ruth Smithheisler, Jack Helmer, Allen Hein, Hilden Hayward, Jimmy Garrison, and Don Schlotz.
Some fine roasting ears were enjoyed by the editor and family this week from the late garden of the James Rays.
