The old Civil War cannon which has occupied the corner space on the courthouse lawn has enlisted for another hitch at war in another form. Likewise the later World War model, that has been a point of interest in the city park for ten years or so, will go back into service.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Siebert announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Elizabeth Siebert, to Mr. James Arnold Tibbetts, son of Dr. and Mrs. J.E. Tibbetts.

Don Dunn and Leo Scharenberg of Marion, Gerald J. Franta of Lincolnville, and Lamar A. Hajek, Marion, according to information from Leavenworth, are "swinging into army life" there. Before being sent to a replacement center, they will be given several days' preliminary instruction at Leavenworth and will then received 8 weeks basic training in whatever branch they are assigned to.

Members of the Marion American Legion Post who attended the state convention in Hutchinson on Monday were Earl Kreuter, Don Fisher, Clive Jarvis, Allen Kimble, L.P Richter, Charles Niederhauser, John Ely, Ollie Wight, Dick Johnson, Julius Schultz, V.A. Bartel, and Otto Grothe.

Antelope school opened Monday with an enrollment of six: George Schimpf, Ervin Loveless, Norbert Bezdek, Richard and Laura Jane Bredemeier, and Ronald Hiebert.

Don Schlotz, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Schlotz, fell from a horse while visiting at the Bob Mathiot farm south of town and broke his arm between the elbow and shoulder. He is wearing quite a harness to keep the arm supported until the arm knits.

The faculty of the schools and the wives of the married men were entertained by members of the school board and their wives at a picnic Tuesday evening at the lake. Following supper, Mr. Hollar took them all for a boat ride.
