Fire Chief Joe Swan was rather badly burned about the face and hands Thursday morning at a fire in the rear room of Joe Duckworth's filling station on South Third Street. With his hook, Chief Swan pulled over a barrel which burst into flames and burning oil sprayed over him. First aid was given at the scene and he was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Howard Slifer writes his mother, Mrs. Flora McKibben, in the first letter received in two weeks, that he is at Guadalcanal with the fighting forces. His letter had been cut up badly by the censor until only three small pieces remained which told he was well and hoped to get a furlough home before many weeks.

Three one-act plays will be given Nov. 20 in the high school auditorium. Cast of "Be Home by Midnight" is comprised of Monette Avery, Darlene Johnson, Jean Knight, Paul White, and Vic Reiswig. Players in "A Kiss in the Dark" are Bob Edmunds, Norma Jean Amick, John Edmunds, Betty Knackstedt, and Jeanne Carpenter. Members of the cast of "Not Quite Such a Good" are Mary Jo Utting, Don Larsen, Pauline Keazer, Harry Chill, and Dorene Stenzel.

Teachers of two rural schools brought their pupils in to the Record office Thursday to show them the inside working of a newspaper shop. Miss Victoria Pospisil brought all of her 15 pupils at Youngtown. They are: Max Hayen, Glenda Razor, Gerald Tajchman, Ronald Herbel, John Hayen, Henrietta Stika, Georgene Tajchman, Harold Bowers, Leland Nienstedt, Mary Jean Nienstedt, Dolores Razor, Sarah Jane Fortmeyer, Valarian Stika, Marilyn Hayen, and Wilma Laubhan. Mrs. Gene Atterberry brought her pupils from Bixler district. They are: Philip Mehl, Ezra Helmer, Betty Lucas, Ralph Dohner, and Ruth Mehl. Miss Annie Helmer accompanied Mrs. Atterberry and the students.
