Superintendent Jim Blackim of the city light plant, and his staff of assistants, started the annual overhauling of the engines at the plant last week. Helping him are the regular shift men, Leo Reynolds and Maurice Fick. In addition, Harry Klein, Clarence Haas, and Geovennie Toevs make up the group of workers.

The North Marion County One-Act Play Contest was held at Tampa Friday evening with seven schools participating on the graded basis. Highly superior positions were won by Lincolnville with "Rich Man, Poor Man," individual awards to Elaine Lueker and Vonda Lee Ulrich, and by the play, "Jacob Comes Home," with Mildred Dies, Vernon Kliewer, and Arnold Winter winning individual citations.

With the start of election of the married men here, Max Buck is trying to figure out if and when he gets in the Army, will he be Private Buck or Buck Private.

Mrs. Leslie Powell entertained a number of young ladies at dinner Tuesday evening in honor of the 13th birthday of her daughter, Donna. Places were marked for Donna, Jean Hagans, Janice Socolofsky, Ruth Smithheisler, Imogene Mathiot, Kerns Allen, and Junior Powell.

The Up and Doing class of the Methodist church had a taffy pull at Mrs. Hazel Meierhoff's house last Friday. The evening was spent in making taffy and attending the show Those present were Peggy McCarty, Nancy Myer, Anne Burkholder, Mary Burnett, Naomi McIntosh, and Loyette Hollar.

Ensign Anton (Tony) Meyer joined the Navy April 10 and received his seaman's training in San Diego, Calif. Two months later, on June 8, he was commissioned an ensign in the Navy Reserve, and sent to Notre Dame University for officer training. He has since been on very active duty on Atlantic waters. Ensign Meyer is one of the five sons of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Meyer of Tampa, who are in the service — four of his brothers being in the Army.
