With the constantly rising demand for electricity in homes, business house, industries, and on the farms, the arrival of the city's new Model 33 Fairbanks-Morse diesel unit engine is none too soon. Some day, or evening, when you have the time, visit your light plant — it's a Marion institution of which everyone may be justly proud.
Mrs. Henry Williams, mother of Albert Williams, has purchased the property, both house and gasoline station, on South Third Street from Joe Duckworth. She will occupy the house, but plans to rent the station.
The first appearance of the Marion school band under the direction of Richard Hinkson highly entertained the large crowd attending. Ushers at the event were Mahlon Wheeler, Dennis Youk, Anne Burkholder and Joan Herzet, the girls wearing formal frocks.
Miss Eileen Hoover, who leaves next week to attend Kansas University, was complimented at a dinner party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Heath Monday evening, Jan. 12. Carl Elling, county farm agent, who was celebrating his birthday the same day also received special birthday greetings.
Mrs. Cecil Pierce was in Manhattan Sunday to be present at the passing of chocolates following Sunday dinner at Van Zile Hall which announced the engagement of Miss Billie Ilene Pierce to Mr. Gene DeLong, both students at Kansas State.
NOTICE
By order of City Commission the dump on the Phillips land south of town is to be discontinued. All dumping thereafter shall be on former dump north of town. Positively no dumping off of road. All person dumping must drive in gate and dump inside fence.
