The first room in the proposed community hospital, to be purchased and dedicated as a memorial, is one which the committee announces has been purchased by the heirs of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mehl — Philip Mehl, C.J. Mehl, Grace M. Stenzel, James Mehl, Ruth M. Ehrlich, and Jno. H. Mehl. No doubt there are quite a number of families in the county who will also donate the $4000 which will purchase a room in the hospital, and thus memorialize the names of loved ones in a splendid way.
The Marion High School Supt. Joe Parsons reports the school has purchased a bronze plaque which will commemorate the services of high school boys from the school in this war.
Jimmy Kline, who drives a Jeep for a colonel down at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, is on furlough here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kline.
The North Marion County basketball tournament played Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Durham gym resulted in Tampa rural high taking the title in the final game with Lehigh by the hair-raising score of 20 to 21. It was anybody's game until the last whistle.
Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe King entertained Sunday with a family potluck dinner in honor of the birthday of their son, Fred.
Members of the Aulne Sunday school class No. 5 and 6 went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Larsen Saturday evening and surprised Donald on his 17th birthday. Other guests were Jackie Manuel of Peabody and Leslie Fruechting, teacher. Cake and fruit salad were served.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scharenberg received word that their son, Leo, who is in North Africa, and has been a patient in the hospital suffering with yellow jaundice, is better and expects to return to active duty soon.
Miss Agnes Wiens entertained the members of the Bid 'N' Hope club and two guests, Mrs. Leo Brose and Mrs. Bess Jones, at an Indian supper Thursday evening. Guests were served in Indian fashion, on the floor and ate with their fingers. The food was a typical meal of India.
