FEBRUARY 24, 1944
Beginning Monday, February 28, housewives will have to adjust themselves to a new system of food rationing. At that time new red and blue rationing tokens will become effective, and all the stamps in your food rationing books will assume the same value of ten points each.
Fixtures of the Wolfe Variety Store, purchased last week by Duckwalls, are being moved this week from the
Campbell building. They are being taken to Hays, Kansas, where a fire destroyed many of the fixtures and much of the merchandise shortly before Christmas.
With the unanimous support of the Chamber of Commerce, the city solicitation committee of the proposed community hospital for Marion will begin a concentrated drive for pledges beginning February 28. Gordon Wolf and Ira Newcomer were named to organize the teams and to detail the plans for the solicitation.
Mrs. Donald Ford entertained on Sunday afternoon in honor of her daughter Jackie's fifth birthday. The little girls went to the show and then to Jackie's home where they were served refreshments. Those present were Jeanette Russell, Kay Ann Navrat, Nancy Keazer, Peggy and Janice Hayward, Norma Sly, Marilyn Richmond, Judy Coons, Jeannine Williamson, and the honored guest, Jackie.
The Methodist church congregation entertained with a potluck dinner Wednesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Wallis Hoch and Anna Lou Hoch, who expect to leave Marion before long. Following dinner they enjoyed a singing session and short talks.
Miss Frances Richmond entertained at dinner Thursday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Richmond. The occasion was in honor of Mrs. Elmer Rempel's and Mr. Martin Helmer's birthdays. Places were marked for Mr. and Mrs. Martin Helmer, Mr. and Mrs. Rempel and son, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Youk, Phyliss Youk, Harry Helmer, Mrs. Howard Richmond, Marilyn, June, and Kent, and the hostess.
