Less than half of the sum necessary to obtain the proposed community hospital has been pledged. Pledges total $69,894.51 to date. Pledges for $150,000 are necessary to secure the proposed hospital. Six men made a trip to the northern part of the county Monday on behalf of the drive. Men going were John Wheeler, Al Richardson, Jay Hargett, Randolph Carpenter, John Gardner and A.T. Campbell.
A 1942 Dodge Army Carryall, one of a convoy of vehicles taking McPherson girls and chaperones to a U.S.O. dance at the Herington Air Base Tuesday night, turned a complete flip-flop in the air and hit a 12-inch tree with the machine lying on the right side headed back toward Hillsboro. The accident occurred about two and one-half miles west of Marion at 7:30 p.m. The seven girls, after an examination which disclosed no serious injuries, continued on to the dance.
In a pretty wedding ceremony performed at St. John's Catholic Church at Pilsen April 11, Miss Lorene Holub of Wichita, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Holub of Marion, became the bride of Mr. Harry Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nelson of Ruleton, Kansas.
Sgt. Robert Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey, finished his training at Kingman, Arizona, on April 9. He was awarded silver wings. He is an aerial gunner and has gone to Lincoln, Nebraska, for further training.
Mrs. Alex Case and sons, Rosse and Junior, went to Dodge City Friday and visited until Tuesday. They went especially to attend a birthday dinner in honor of her father, J.L. Braddock. Mr. Braddock was 86 years old.
