In an announcement this week, G.A. Schmersey notifies the people of the community of his decision to close out his grocery business. This move, Mr. Schmersey says, it caused by the lack of help, poor health, and constantly changing OPA regulations that makes it impossible for him to continue the business that he has been working at for 42 years.

In a three way play, Seifert to Schlehuber to Schlehuber, the ownership of the Cozy Café ended in the hands of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Schlehuber Monday after three quick shifts of owners. Mr. and Mrs. John Seifert sold the café to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schlehuber last Thursday. Monday they, in turn, sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Schlehuber. Mrs. Clara Dody and daughter, Betty, will assist in running the café.

A very pretty and inspirational graduation service was held in the Pilsen church Sunday evening. Rev. Father Kapaun gave an inspirational message to the boys and girls after which each received their diploma and blessing. The graduates were Helen Holub, Marjorie Vinduska, Evelyn Kristek, Eugene Vinduska, Joseph Jirak and Paul Svitak.

Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Mersereau announce the marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, to Pfc. Joe Childs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Childs on May 11 at Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Pfc. and Mrs. Childs came to Marion Monday to spend his 13-day furlough.

Mrs. Jess Coons entertained with a lovely birthday party at the Country Club May 16 in honor of her daughter, Judy's sixth birthday. Guests were Judy, Jeannine Williamson, Janet Holub, Diana and Billy Jean Herbert, Patsy Dixon, Jackie Ford, Carmen Siebert, Jeanette Russell, Vicki Black, and Judy Kay Klein.

Durham High School baccalaureate exercises were held May 14. The senior class roll includes Merrill Christiansen, Howard E. Geis, Jane Geissfler, Nadine Klaasen, Virgil Oblander, Dean Ollenburger, Althea Pankratz, Jean Peters, Ruth Rhode, Joan Rhodes, Bernice Tajchman, Max E. Unholtz, and Oliver Unruh.
