At a Frances Willard program in a grade school recently, in honor of the great temperance pioneer, three small boys were to sing a trio. Imagine the chagrin of those in charge, when they got up and sang "Roll Out The Barrel."
On the possibility that some resident of this county gave Bruce Smoll, 18, a ride part of the way on his trip home, we are printing his picture. The last trace of a Wichita lad who was hitchhiking home from Kansas State College, Manhattan, was at the Marion city limits when he stopped at Joe Duckworth's station, drank a bottle of pop, and rested awhile.
Several wives of servicemen got together Wednesday evening at the Matthews home and started an organization which will meet again next Tuesday evening with Mrs. Earl Baumgartner at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Socolofsky. Their list so far includes Mrs. Rex Owens, Mrs. Curtis Langley, Mrs. Paul Siebert, Mrs. Bill Wright, Mrs. Charles Hayen, Mrs. Bob Ecker, Mrs. France Parham, Mrs. Bonny Hamlin, Mrs. Bonnie Sink, Mrs. Art Kline, Mrs. Virginia Heidel Johnson, Mrs. Harold Ewert, Mrs. Roland Fenske, Mrs. Albert Ollenberger, Mrs. Don Dunn, Mrs. Clyde Dunn, Mrs. Edmund Amick, Mrs. Waldo Schmersey, Mrs. Glenn Matthews, Mrs. Earl Baumgartner, and Mrs. Plato Kimball.
Ann Burkholder celebrated her 13th birthday Friday with a party at her home following the football game. Guests were Loyette Hollar, Patsy Harris, Nancy Myer, Betty Wiilliams, Donna Hobein, Donna Powell, Dawna Summerville, Bill Greason, J.D. Wright, Dennis Youk, Bob Hein, Max Merrill, Bob Reinke, Warren Woerz.
Miss Julia Campbell was hostess Saturday night to the members of the Bid 'N' Hope Club and three guests, Miss Elizabeth Little of Manhattan, Mrs. Edwin Burkholder, and Mrs. Roscoe King. High score prizes were won by Miss Little and Miss Clara Duncan. Miss Edna Rupp won the galloping prize.
