Among the list of repatriates being exchanged with this country by Japan, and coming to India on a Jap ship, are Emma Bartel and Jacobena Bartel of Hillsboro. It is presumed they were made prisoners in Jap conquered territory. They change to a Swedish ship in India, to be brought to the States.
Tryouts were held Monday for the cast for an all-school play. The play to be given is "Student Queen," a comedy of school life. The cast includes Ruth Skibbe, Delphos Mehlinger, Jeanne Carpenter, Mary Helen King, Edwin Beu, Anna Lou Hoch, Lois Mathiot, Mildred Garrison, Pauline Keazer, Bill Richardson, Bob Edmunds, Donald Larsen, Mary Lou Williams, Dennis Seifert, Mary Jo Utting, and Boyd Higgins.
Lt. Dan Hanschu, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hanschu of near Ramona, died somewhere in the Pacific area Oct. 1 from bronchial pneumonia, according to word received Oct. 5 by his parents.
The following from Marion attended the Sigmund Romberg concert Monday evening in Wichita: Mrs. R.C. Smith, Mrs. Roscoe King, Mrs. Wallis Hoch, Miss Marjorie King, Mary Lou Williams, Anna Lou Hoch, Mary Helen King, and Jeanne Carpenter.
Monday's Wichita Eagle carried a news photo from England, showing Lieut. Richard Larkins, who was recently reported missing in action over Europe, receiving an air medal and congratulations. Lieut. Larkins was a bombardier aboard a Flying Fortress, and was given the medal for having participated in five successful raids over Germany on bombing missions. On a mission subsequent to this medal presentation, Lieut. Larkins failed to return after a raid.
A wedding of interest to many in Marion county occurred Friday, Oct. 8, when Miss Rosalene Higgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Higgins, and Mr. Charles Stinchcomb, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stinchcomb of Lincolnville were united in marriage by Rev. G.I. Benton at the Evangelical parsonage in Lincolnville. Miss Dolores Hobson and Mr. John Pritz attended the couple.
