The weather man smiled on the planned Lakeside Airport opening Sunday afternoon with a fine October day. A crowd estimated at 1,500 people were on hand to watch 17 airplanes from neighboring communities come in on the field.

With 90% of the $200,000 needed for the erection of the Community Hospital pledged, the committee working under the direction of Judge Jay E. Hargett are coming within the shadow of their goal.

Rev. E. Leo Balf, who has been pastor of the Marion Christian Church for the past year, has accepted a pastorate in a Christian church at San Antonio, Texas. Rev. Balf's resignation becomes effective November 13. His successor has not been chosen.

Norma Jean Province was honored last Thursday night with a party given by her mother, Mrs. C.A. Province, on her 15th birthday. Those present were Jean Hagans, Janice Socolofsky, Delores Edmunds, Corrine Longhofer, Imogene Mathiot, Norma Jean Sandwell, and Wanda Ireland.

Sgt. Bill Fulkerson writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fulkerson, that he has arrived safely in England.

Members of Girl Scout Troop 1 met October 16 at the Girl Scout room. Trail blazing was studied. Members of the troop are Norma Sly, Patsy Rittel, Janice Meisner, Joyce Keazer, Ethel Hiebert, Ernestine Good, Sally Sherrard, Virginia Wright, Iva June Avery, Treva Kelsey, Carol Creek, Jeaneen Brose, Roberta Newsom, Joyce Marie Priess, and Eilene Hansen.

Naomi Ruth McIntosh was the guest of honor at a dinner last Thursday evening given by Mrs. Lydia Merilatt at her home in honor of Naomi Ruth's 14th birthday. A line party to the show was enjoyed afterward. Those present were Anne Burkholder, Patsy Harris, Loyette Hollar, Betty Williams, and Janice Socolofsky.

Mrs. Eugene Knackstedt had a party Thursday evening for her son, Larry's, fifth birthday. Little folks present were Larry and Gary Knackstedt, Mary Kaye and Judy Wart, Verlin Gene Meier, Floyd Baxter, and Leland Paul Deines.
