At date 4,320 "A" gasoline coupon books have been issued to automobile owners in Marion County, D.M. Seneker, chairman of the Marion County War Price and Rationing Board No. 5223, announces. The No. 13 (new) gasoline coupons are worth four gallons of gasoline and are valid until December 21, 1944.

Frederick King will be graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Kansas in exercises to be held October 29. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe King and Mary Helen expect to attend the event in Lawrence. Dr. King will spend two weeks in Marion before going to Santa Barbara, Calif., where he will do his intern work.

Homer Miesse, manager of the Central West Utility Company in Marion, is to be transferred to Bonner Springs about the middle of January. Walter Fruechting will begin work with the company October 30 and will replace Mr. Miesse when the transfer occurs.

Mrs. S.L. Brose entertained for her grandson, Jerry's, birthday last Thursday by inviting his playmates to lunch. The group included Dannie Brodhead, Michael Brodhead, Vernon Gossen, Harold Lloyd Shields, and James Propp.

A large crowd attended the cake walk at No. Nine Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heise and Mrs. Carl Gutsch were the musicians. Mrs. Frank Smolik brought a duck which was raffled off. Mrs. Lorene Smolik donated a pair of hand embroidered pillow cases which were sold at auction. She also brought an angel food cake covered with colored candies for a guessing contest. Harry Adams of the Elk community won the duck. Mrs. Shorty Estes was the lucky winner of the pillow cases and Mrs. Henry Collett won the cake in the guessing contest.

Miss Wanda Ireland entertained members of the S.D.C. Club Tuesday evening in honor of her fifteenth birthday Guests included Jean Hagans, Janice Socolofsky, Imogene Mathiot, Corrine Longhofer, Norma Jean Province, Delores Edmunds, and Norma Jean Sandwell.
