Mrs. Flora McKibben received word this week of the death of her son, Pvt. Howard Slifer. Pvt. Slifer died Nov. 9 in a naval hospital in the Fiji Islands. Word also was received this week by Mrs. Dave Seifert that her son, Lt. Hugh M. Hardgrave was reported missing in action following an air raid over Germany on Nov. 11.

"Student Queen," the annual all-school play was presented Thursday evening at the high school auditorium. Parts were taken by Ruth Skibbe, Delphas Mehlinger, Jeanne Carpenter, Mary Helen King, Edwin Beu Jr., Anna Lou Hoch, Lois Mathiot, Mildred Garrison, Pauline Keazer, Bill Richardson, Bob Edmunds, Donald Larsen, Mary Lou Williams, Dennis Seifert, Mary Jo Utting, and Boyd Higgins Jr.

A group of young people from Our Savior's Lutheran Church spent an enjoyable and profitable Sunday afternoon and evening attending the Zone Rally at White City. Those attending were Delores Klein, Cleo Klein, Frances Schlotthauer, Lorene Schlotthauer, Lois Tiemeier, Doris Wangerin, Veona Wangerin, Howard Klein, Leroy Brunner, Victor Winter, and Rev. Knoke.

A year ago this week Dickinson Inc. purchased the Kaw Theatre from Mr. A.W. Heyl of Junction City. The place was completely redecorated and the public has responded to good pictures which have run regularly for the past twelve months. Mr. Richard Brodhead was retained as manager and his genial personality and good management has made the past year a successful one for the Kaw Theatre. In special celebration of their first birthday, Mr. Brodhead is offering at the Kaw some very special attractions for the coming week. "Phantom of the Opera" with Nelson Eddy and Susanna Foster will be shown Friday and Saturday, Red Skelton and Lucille Ball in "DuBarry Was a Lady" on Sunday and Monday, and "So Proudly We Hail" with Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard and Veronica Lake on Wednesday and Thursday.
