The Marion County Ration Office will close November 23 and all files will be removed to McPherson County, Mrs. Robert Stack, chief clerk, stated today. The closing of the Marion office, opened here shortly after the war began, is in line with OPA's policy of discontinuing rationing as soon as possible.

Two more new businesses opened here this week. Leonard Hilsenbeck has opened the Marion Machinery Company with Minneapolis Moline farm equipment and John Seifert has opened a Conoco Service Station at the corner of West Main and Walnut streets.

Theodore Loney returned to Marion Nov. 10 having been discharged from the Marines. He wears the Silver Star earned on Iwo Jima, the Bronze Star for Saipan, the Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, and ribbons for the American and Asiatic-Pacific Theater with two battle stars.

Donna Powell was pleasantly surprised Saturday evening when Rose Marie Avery carried out a party in celebration of Donna's 16th birthday. The young people met at the Marion Pharmacy and were taken to the Powell home where Mrs. Powell, Mrs. George Powell and Millie Thomas accompanied them to the Powell cabin at the Lakeview Addition where they enjoyed cards, games and dancing. Guests attending were Margie Frazier, Janice Socolofsky, Mary Louise Tibbetts, Betty Williams, Sylvia Stika, Colleen Vogel, Loyette Hollar, Alta Stenzel, Cherridah Mullikin, Dean Waddell, Allen Hein, Forrest Kelsey, Leroy McDaris, Clyde Hiebert, Don Schlotz, Vernon Vogel, Max Merrill, Kenneth Conyers, Earl Janzen, and Dean Hansen.
