The committee planning the project of a hospital in Marion, met at the courthouse Friday afternoon, to make preliminary arrangements for a financial canvass, which will be made starting just after the first of the year.

The city commissioners have received notification from the WPB that "no producer (of electric power) may construct a temporary extension to serve an electric lighting display for decorative or ornamental purposes related to the celebration of Christmas." Because of the blackout, the customary street lighting was omitted last year but it was hoped since the city already owns the lighting, that they might be put up this year. This order definitely says "no" to that hope.

Mrs. Randolph Carpenter, Jeanne Carpenter, and Mary Helen King went to Wichita Wednesday to attend the play, "Junior Miss."

A new subdivision has been laid out north of the county lake and east of the other one. It already has a four-room oil field house on it which belongs to McPherson men. They expect to do quite a bit of work on it. Tom Davis has had trees and some shrubs planted around his trailer home and put up an ornamental fence. He is laying some walks, too. Joe Burkert is making a very attractive place out of his lot. He has added a split rail fence and some trees. Tree holes have been dug on some of the other lots.

Increased supplies of canned pineapple, canned grapefruit juice, asparagus, corn, pumpkin, spinach, tomatoes, beans and figs will reach retail markets within a few weeks. They are supplies owned and held by canners, but set aside for Government purchases, which have been released for civilians.

Little Billy Hammer is quarantined with scarlet fever.

The memorial service was held as previously announced Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church for Pvt. Howard Slifer who died in a hospital in the Figi Islands. Rev. Alva Brown gave a very inspiring and appropriate sermon. A quartet composed of Art Schmersey, Earl Kreuter, Irvin Kreutziger, and Gordon Wolf sang several numbers.
