Obley's Firestone store, located in the former Bowlby Clothing Company building, will hold its grand opening December 7. Manager "Biz" Obley and his staff are anxious to become better acquainted with the people of Marion and vicinity.
For the first time in three years the Cottonwood Valley League championship rests in Marion's hands as a result of a 6-6 tie in a game played on Peabody's field Thanksgiving Day.
New paint jobs on the exterior of the Case building on the north side of Main Street, on the fronts of Beaman's Barber Shop and Schoneman's Shoe Store on the south side of the same block, and the front of the Bogart building, materially improve the appearance of Main Street.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Waddell and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Beaston entertained the football boys at a dinner in the city building Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. The tables were attractively centered with a football topped with a huge red and blue ribbon bow. Red and blue candles flanked either side of the football. Mrs. George Rhodes, LaVerna Knight, Corrine Longhofer, Janice Socolofsky, Jean Hagans and Donna Powell assisted with the serving. Dinner was served to Coach Joe Parsons, and football players Jack Adams, Jack Beaston, Junior Case, Howard Collett, Harold Conyers, Donald Dody, James Druse, Harold Ehrlich, Jim Garrison, Wallace Good, Dean Hansen, Warren Hayen, Clyde Hiebert, Vernon Heidel, Allan Hein, John Hett, Donald Hoover, Earl Janzen, Durward Klassen, Howard Mehlinger, Don Schlotz, Vernon Vogel, Dale Vogel, Dean Waddell, Dwight Waddell, Warren Woerz, Kenneth Conyers, and LeRoy McDaris.
