Pvt. Bob C. Mott was killed in action in Belgium on January 13, according to a telegram received Friday from his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mott of Tacoma, Washington, by Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Emrich, close friends of the family. Bob received much of his schooling in Marion, graduating with the MHS class of 1943. His father was a teacher in the Marion Junior High for a number of years, resigning to accept employment in the shipyards in Tacoma.
Due to the lack of material in the Red Cross rooms, the MNAW will enjoy a line party to the Kaw Theatre Tuesday evening instead of the usual Red Cross work.
On January 29, the following Cadets completed their 10 hours training in the Civil Air Patrol and passed their examinations: Jeanne Carpenter, Harry Haas, Bettie Lou Propp, Bill Griggs, Ronald Atkinson and Mary Helen King.
Sgt. Steve Winchester, who was reported missing in action, is in a hospital recovering from a wound received in Belgium December 19, according to a telegram received by his mother on January 29.
Carol Lee Kiddoo, of Kansas City, has enrolled in the high school in Marion. She is staying at the Braden Johnston home until living quarters can be secured for her and her mother. Mrs. Kiddoo is still in Kansas City with Betty who is waiting for her call into the Nurses Corps.
Pvt. John Smolik wrote his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smolik of the No. 9 company, that he's seen lots of land. He's been through France, Holland, Germany and Belgium.
