Two business houses have undergone beautifying operation of late. Marion Pharmacy is most attractive with a brand new coat of paint on walls and ceiling. And a new carpet has been laid in the foyer of the Kaw Theatre and down the aisles.
Marion High School trackster Dwight Waddell ran the half mile in 2 minutes 5 seconds at the Kansas University Relays Friday to lead home a field of 47 entries and, incidentally, bring a nice bit of glory to himself and his school. The following firsts were won: 100-yard dash, Dwight Waddell; 880-yard dash, Dwight Waddell; 200-yard low hurdles, Earl Janzen; discus, Harold Ehrlich; medley relay, W. Good, D. Waddell, Earl Janzen, D. Stafford; mile relay, Dale Vogel, C. Hiebert, D. Schlotz, Allen Hein.
Playing at the Starland Theatre in Tampa on April 27 and 28 will be Leo Gorcey and The East Side Kids in "Come Out Fighting."
Mrs. Broder Williamson entertained the following guests at a party Wednesday afternoon in celebration of Jeannine's 10th birthday: Diana Herbert, Charlene Youk, Marilyn Reh, Virginia Price, Karen Brodhead, Vicki Black, Carmen Siebert, Janet Lee Holub and Jeannine's teacher, Miss Campbell.
The annual Easter morning egg hunt for the children and breakfast and social gathering for the adults given each year for neighborhood friends by Mrs. Bert McCullough and Mrs. Howard Mullen, was, as usual, a delightful affair.
Mrs. M.L. Evans of Peabody, assisted by her mother, gave a party Saturday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Broadstreet, the occasion being the birthdays of Nancy Lee and Bernadeen Broadstreet. Those present were Nancy Lee, Bernadeen, Phyllis Soyez, Jerry Lou Merrifield, Larry Evans, Gailen Broadstreet, Larry Long and Lane Broadstreet.
Two former Marion boys, B.M. Patterson who is in the maritime service and Harry N. Patterson, MOMM 3/c, were in Marion for several days this week. They had driven in from California in the course of a 30-day leave the first time they had been back for over six years.
