Pfc. Jean Dixon and Cpl. Florence Snyder are pictured on the front page as they chat with Frank Sinatra following his appearance at Camp Shanks, New York. The two girls had a thrill that many a bobby-soxer would give a year of her life for. Pfc. Dixon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Dixon of Marion.
The youth recreation center is to be open Saturday night only from the hours of 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., Leona Vinduska, chairman, announces.
Rev. and Mrs. S.D. Hower arrived Wednesday, May 30, to make their home in the parsonage of the Evangelical church. Rev. Hower comes to his new position from the Belleville church in Doniphan County, where he served two years.
Announcement is made in this issue of the re-opening of the Paul Seifert Motor Company on Monday, June 11. The business will go in at its former location in the Seifert building and will feature complete automotive repair and servicing, specializing in work on Chevrolet and Buick cars and Chevrolet trucks.
The second week of the Marion Daily Vacation Church school began with an enrollment of 170 and an attendance of 139. The school picnic will be Friday.
The Marion Bakery has been recently brightened up with a new interior paint and wallpaper job. Mr. and Mrs. Greenemeyer report having quite a time getting their regular full schedule of baking done and keeping out of the way of the painters at the same time.
Winter and summer seem to be staging a "tug of war" to see which will win out. One day it is hot, next day it is cold. June 3rd was cool enough for a fire and coats. The temperature June 4 was 46 degrees.
