Cpl. William Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Adams of Florence, was killed in action April 26, 1945, in the South Pacific.
An unusual sight in this vicinity is the herd of 32 cattle being pastured in Cobb Hauser's land two miles east of Marion. They were brought up the first of May from Old Mexico and are an odd lot by our standards. Some are part Brahma, some part Jersey, some part Holstein, and all are assorted in breed. It is presumed they will be marketed in the fall. Mr. Hauser does not guarantee the tenderness of the steaks which may be cut from the animals.
The popular swimming pool at the Marion Country Club is now open for use for the summer, it was announced this week. The pool has been completely cleaned, the bottom resanded, and water purified it was stated. The pool is available to members of the immediate family of all members, as well as any out of town guests.
The Marion High School band has accepted an invitation to join in the celebration at Abilene on Friday, June 22, at the occasion of General Dwight Eisenhower's homecoming.
Dorene Stenzel, Helen Hett and Wanda Hannaford were guests of Ella Marie Reinke at Ellinwood last week. They returned to Marion Saturday.
The Marion County Chapter of the Red Cross has received letters of thanks from two orphan girls, Rogalienne Delando and Denise Gaffray, at the Rochefort on Terre orphanage in a town not far from the German border, for dresses recently sent to them by the chapter. The letters were translated from French by Mrs. Jerry Mullikin.
