John Spohn, a young farmer living about three miles northeast of Tampa, was instantly killed last Saturday morning when he was struck by lightning while opening a gate during a rain storm. Survivors include his wife and a seven year old daughter.
Clive Jarvis was the successful bidder for the 80 acres where the country club stands, auctioned off at Council Grove Friday by the Knott estate administrator. The selling price was $5,250. Mr. Jarvis has expressed his willingness to lease the site to the members of the country club for a number of years.
Martin Riffel sold 16 head of cattle on the Kansas City market June 16 weighing 1070 pounds and bringing $16.25 per hundred. They had been on full feed 80 days.
Mrs. Edward Good entertained the following guests Tuesday in honor of son Bill's fourth birthday: Janet Stiller and her mother, Mrs. Homer Stiller, Max Ewert and Mrs. Harold Ewert, Sylvia and Mrs. Doug Herbert, Paul and Betty Ford, Gary and Larry Knackstedt, Robert Melton, Caroline Susdorf, Rita Miser, Gregory Henry, Florence McGowan, Jimmy Christensen, Keith Conyers, and Billy and Tommy Good.
Jackie Hawbecker is leaving Friday for Camp Wood to spend five days there at the Girl Reserve camp. Because of wartime restrictions, only one representative can go this year, and the session has been cut from 10 to five days.
Capt. Keith Gimson of Buckley Field, Colorado, buzzed the town Saturday and was met in Herington by Miss Florence Irene King. He was a guest at the Roscoe King home for the weekend.
