Mayo Stubby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Stubby, formerly of Marion but now of McPherson, was killed in action June 22 on Okinawa.
Sixteen Boy Scouts spent the week of July 1-7 camping at Camp Ta-wa-ka-ni near Augusta. The scouts included D. Hansen, R. Reinke, Junior Powell, Max Merrill, Dale Klassen, Durward Klassen, B. Hannaford, C.R. Moulton, E. Petersen, M. Hett, V. Winter, D. Van Buren, H. Mehlinger, E. Grimes, J. Parsons, and D. Fick.
Two Marion County men, Pfc. Gerald Schroer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Schroer of Lost Springs, and Pvt. Fred Ruby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ruby of Marion, have been wounded in the Philippines in that prolonged fight against the Japs.
The marriage of Miss Eveyln Seibel, daughter of Mrs. Christian Seibel of Hillsboro, to Mr. Wesley Regier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Regier of Peabody, was solemnized June 19 at the Ebenfeld church near Hillsboro. The Rev. G.W. Lohrenz was the officiating clergyman.
Technical Sergeant Leslie M. Ollenberger was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star by command of General DeGaulle for the provisional government of the Republic of France. The citation read "for exception service rendered in the war during the course of operation in the Liberation of France."
Mrs. Rosse Case entertained with a dinner Sunday in honor of her grandson, Rosse, who is a Seaman 2/C in the Navy. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case, Junior and Rosse and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Noll of Florence.
