A major industry for this area employing approximately 25 people will be in action the next two weeks on the site purchased from Mrs. Arthur Martin one mile southwest of Marion. This industry, known as the Riddle Quarries Inc., will be an agricultural lime processing plant and will be under the managership of John H. Riddle of Marion.
According to the radio, the Sixth Division is one of the two alerted to accompany MacArthur into Japan. Members of that group from Marion include Lt. Jack Burkholder, 1st Sgt. Daniel Navrat, Sgt. Ellsworth C. Theander, and S/Sgt. Efford Winchester. These boys have just completed duty in the Caygayen Valley in the Philippines where they have seen plenty of action.
A jet propelled plane was over Marion Wednesday morning according to several people who saw it. They said they heard a whish and here it was and then it wasn't.
A bicycle hike in honor of the birthday of Marian Hoyle, who lives with the D.W. Wheeler Jr. family, was given Monday. Guests present were Pat Harris Pat Brose, Donna Powell, Loyette Hollar, Ann Burkholder and Dawna Summervill. After the bicycle hike they were served refreshments at the Wheeler home.
A slumber party was held at the country club Saturday night honoring Mary Lou Williams who has been spending the summer in Kansas City with her mother. Those present were Nancy Colburn, Wanda Hannaford, Ella Marie Reinke, Peggy Gerstenkorn, Pauline Keazer, Mary Helen King, Vivian Pierce, Helen Hett, Dorene Stenzel, and the honored guest.
