Lee's Grill will open for business Friday, September 6. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Greenemeyer announce the opening in an advertisement in this issue. The room at 211 E. Main, formerly occupied by the late T.W. Butcher, has been fitted out as an eating house. Hours of service are 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight.
Harry J. Woodring, Democratic nominee for governor, will pay an informal visit to Marion Saturday, Mr. Paul Williams, Democratic chairman, is advised.
Horse lovers of this and the surrounding territory will have a rare treat in the two shows being staged Wednesday and Thursday by the Cottonwood Saddle Horse Association. Col. Tuttle and his trained American thoroughbreds and the Fort Riley jumping horses will be the unusual attractions with other fine horses entered.
Billy Novak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Novak of Lost Springs, left Monday morning on the Rocket for Boonville, Mo., where he will enter Kemper Military Academy.
Announcement is made this week by Ira Newcomer of the Newcomer Motor Co., local Ford dealer, of the inclusion of S.W. Gound, of Newton, as a partner in the business. The new firm name will be Newcomer-Gound Motor Company.
Mrs. J.F. Waddell carried out a surprise party Tuesday evening to celebrate the 17th birthday of her son, Dean. The following young people were invited: Patsy Harris, Betty Williams, Virginia Geis, Donna Hobein, Loyette Hollar, Georgia Christensen, Cherridah Mullikin, Don Schlotz, Leroy McDaris, Warren Hayen, Bob Hein, and Milton Miller.
College plans announced this week are: Misses Mary Helen King, Wanda Hannaford, and Mary Louise Tibbetts will attend Women's' College at Denver, Colo.; Virginia Hayen, Wilfred Bowers, Leon Hayen and Fritz Hayen and wife will enter the Evangelical church school, Western Union College at LeMars, Iowa; Margie Ewert and Joan Kelsey will be students at Salina Business College; and Ronald Roy Atkinson, will attend Union College in Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. and Mrs. William F. Vinduska, Marion, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Leona Marie, to Mr. James Loney, son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Loney Sr., 404 E. Santa Fe, Marion. The wedding will be Sept. 23 in St. John's Church, Pilsen.
