'Hank' Richmond

Henrietta "Hank" (Conyers) Richmond, 90, died Oct. 12, 2002, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

Born April 18, 1912, on a farm in the Youngtown community, she was the fourth of 11 children born to James and Anna (Hayen) Conyers.

When she was in the fourth grade, the family moved to a farm southwest of Marion where she grew up.

She attended Bixler and Sunflower country schools and graduated from Marion High School in the class of 1931. She was a member of Marion Evangelical Church.

On Nov. 17, 1932, she was married to Clyde Fredrick "Fritz" Richmond.

They lived on the farm when their four children were born and moved to Marion in 1958.

She had a great sense of humor and was supportive of her family. She especially enjoyed costume parties.

She worked in 4-H and taught a children's Sunday school class.

Noted for her cooking and baking, making birthday and wedding cakes for the family, and preparing many family meals. She baked all the buns for the annual Conyers family hamburger cookout, and also was noted for her cinnamon rolls.

She enjoyed pinochle, crocheting, crewel embroidery, ceramics, sewing and quilting.

The family cabin on their farm north of Marion was a favorite gathering place for the family and was shared with friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband who died in 1990; four brothers, Frank, Clarence, Willard, and Glen; and sister, Mabel, she is survived by three sons, Ralph and his wife Wanda, James and his wife Violet, and Jack and his wife Joyce; daughter, Evelyn and her husband Richard Bredemeier; brother, Harold Conyers, all of Marion; four sisters, Louise Grubb of Shreveport, La., Hazel Mutatet of Tulsa, Okla., Bessie Bass of Marion, and Bernice Sturdy of Wichita; one brother-in-law, Jess Richmond of Marion; four sisters-in-law, Jane Williams, Dorothy Conyers, Evelyn Mott, and Winnie Conyers, all of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with Pastor John Goering officiating.

Vocal music was by great grandchildren and by Dorothy Richmond with Laura Williams as organist.

Casket bearers were Rodney Richmond, Randall Richmond, Rhonda Schinnerer, Michael Bredemeier, Don Bredemeier, James Bredemeier, Rick Richmond, Jamie Shirley, Allan Richmond, David Richmond, Jackie Palic, and Tim Richmond.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established at the church and St. Luke Living Center.
