'Tim' Burkholder
Edwin V. Burkholder of Westport Point, Mass. died unexpectedly Dec. 28, 2002, in Bretton Woods, N.H., while on vacation with his family. He was born in New York City June 18, 1932, the son of Edwin V. Burkholder and Jeanne Moffat Burkholder and the brother of the late Anne Burkholder Bradley.
Tim, as he was known, grew up in Greenwich Village surrounded by artist friends of his father, a writer. However, his heart was in the plains of Kansas where his father moved the family to Marion when Tim was in second grade. He graduated from Marion High School, attended the University of Kansas for one year before serving in the Army in Korea and Alaska. Upon his return from duty he enrolled at Brown University. He attended the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and Magdelyn College at Oxford University, England.
After graduating with honors in English from Brown University in 1958, he trained for computer sales with IBM, then later started his own business with a partner in Providence, R.I.
In 1961, Tim began his career in publishing, selling advertising space in New England for Industrial Research Magazine. Gradually he rose to publisher, responsible for producing such magazines as Oceanology, Industrial Research, later known as Research & Development, Control Engineering and Datamation.
He was senior vice president of Technical Publishing, a subsidiary of Dun & Bradstreet for 25 years. For the past 11 years, Tim was associate executive director for the Instruments Society of America (ISA). He published In-Tech, Industrial Computing, and Motion Control magazines in addition to the ISA Journals.
Burkholder is survived by his wife Anne Maslen Burkholder, with whom he would have celebrated 43 years of marriage in February. He also is survived by son Joshua Moffat Burkholder and his companion, Dannielle Thomas of New Milford, Conn.; daughters Sarah Kelly Mullican and husband Mark of Terre Haute, Ind., Amy Nicholds Burkholder and husband Brian Long of Chicago, Ill., and Samantha Newton Zucchi and husband Filippo of Washington, D.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Mass was said Jan. 2, 2003, at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Westport, Mass., followed by burial at the Beech Grove Cemetery.
