'When I'm Gone' is great anthem

Love Me When I'm Gone" is the song one seems to hear most often on the (car) radio. It's by Three Doors Down, and it is excellent. The band performed May 10 at a River Festival concert in Wichita.

In 2002, the song one most often heard on the radio, at least where I was, in South Central Kansas, was Nickelback's "How You Remind Me." Also a very good song, although, as much as I liked it, the jocks played it so much I almost grew weary of hearing it.

I had four Wichita stations and one Ark City/Winfield/Ponca City station on my "set" buttons in the car. (Still do, except the 102.5 setting is now bringing in not Ark City, but Manhattan or Junction City. Or maybe it's Fort Riley.)

"When I'm Gone" is a wonderful, sad, dark, intense, beautiful song. Even if you are not a rock fan, you could surely find something good to say about this recording.

I was tempted to buy the CD the other night, but $14 or $15 is just too much for one song, i.e. when you are not sure you will like the other nine or 10 on the disc.

The song is about love, loss, and loyalty. Also unselfishness, with a tinge of fear of oblivion.

I just read that some listeners/fans think it's an anthem for the troops that fought in Iraq this year, but band members say that's not really why it was written. It was written, and they've been performing it, for a long time.

They also did "Kryptonite," another good song that was a big hit.
