A fond farewell

By the time this issue hits the street, Marion High School seniors will be out of school and preparing for graduation.

Finals are over, books are returned, and they are getting ready for a whirlwind weekend of receptions and Kodak moments.

This weekend they'll don caps and gowns, ready for that march across the stage in front of family and friends. They'll receive their diplomas, discreetly checking to see if they are duly signed and dated. They'll wait for the signal, flip those caps in the air, and become graduates and alumni of MHS.

All will carry memories of MHS and lessons learned in its corridors and classrooms. They'll remember a certain class, particular teacher, the winning pass of a football game. They'll remember friends and good times.

Some will head off to full-time jobs after graduation. Others will head to college. Some will get married, start families, settle down. Some will leave Marion without a backward glance or thought of returning.

We've watched them grow; remember when they were toddlers, youngsters, and young teen-agers. Now, they're moving into the world as young adults, ready to make their marks.

We congratulate each of the 2006 graduates and wish them success and happiness in their future endeavors. It is our hope they remember where they grew up, remember the lessons they learned in the hallowed halls of MHS, and think fondly of Marion wherever their travels may take them.
