Abatement approved for Marion Die and Fixture

Marion City Commission approved a 100 percent property-tax abatement for a 10-year period for Marion Die & Fixture, Inc., at Monday's commission meeting.

The abatement applies only to two pieces of equipment the company is buying, for about $240,000. Several new jobs are expected to be created with the arrival of the equipment.

Susan Cooper, director of economic development for the city, said Marion County, USD 408, and the St. Luke Hospital board had approved the abatement, for economic development.

Cooper added that she and Keith Mitchell, cartographer, have been working on a map to show zoning in the city, recent annexations, etc.

City Administrator David Mayfield said city officials have moved into their new offices, in the former library building adjoining the city auditorium, where the offices had been.

City offices had been expected to be closed last Thursday and Friday for the move, but city personnel made the move while keeping the offices open because of the ongoing water situation.

Commissioners accepted the city audit report for 2002 from Jan Nolde of Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd, LLC.

They also approved payment of warrants totaling $91,660.77 and payroll totaling $26,871.64.

Commissioners conducted an executive session lasting 30 minutes to discuss a personnel issue, but took no action on the matters discussed, upon resuming open session.
