About 600 attend Tampa State Bank hog roast years ago

Around 600 people attended Tampa State Bank's annual hog roast Saturday evening, followed by a street dance. This event brings many former Tampa residents home to their roots and gives neighbors a chance to get together.

Visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs Sunday after church were Ashton Kerbs and Jesse Smith of Salina and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn.

Deb and Kaylee Hall of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended an ice cream social Sunday evening at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter Sunday afternoon at Marion Manor in Marion.

John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina visited his mother, Helen Schwartzman, Saturday. All went to Mass in Herington, then attended the hog roast.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington visited Tom and Dee Duggan Saturday evening and attended the hog roast.

Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor of Abilene were Saturday overnight guests of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs. All attended the hog roast.

Kama Kraft was a Saturday overnight guest of Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki.

Betty and Don Frick of Topeka and Tom and Dee Duggan attended the visitation for Harry Decker at Hillsboro the evening of Aug. 14. He will be greatly missed by his many friends in this area. His family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Leona Kleiber visited Martha Melcher Aug. 20.

Wayne and Marita Schwartzman and Helen Jean McGonigle of Wichita, Larry Parsons of Mount Hope, Helen Schwartzman, Eleanor Murphy, Martha Melcher, and Francis and Mary Jirak attended the confirmation of Patricia Schwartzman Aug. 19 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Salina, followed by a Mass in which John and Pat Schwartzman renewed their marriage vows. All then attended a reception at John and Pat's home.

Tom and Dee Duggan were overnight guests of Don and Betty Frick of Topeka Aug. 15. On the 16th, the Duggans attended the wedding of Emily Belton and Justin French in Kansas City. They stayed until Aug. 19 with Darla Hall and Adam at Lee's Summit, Mo.

Leona Kleiber visited Martha Melcher Aug. 20.

Evelyn Strecker visited her sister, Helen Schwartzman, the morning of Aug. 19.

Tom and Dee Duggan were among those from here attending the funeral of Marcia Costello Aug. 14 in Garden Plain. Many in this community had come to love Marcia, and her family has our deepest sympathy.

Taylor Thompson of Abilene spent Aug. 13 and 14 with her grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs. Rustyn Kerbs was an additional Wednesday afternoon visitor on the 13th.

Madeline Stuive of Salina met Jane Vajnar in Abilene Aug. 14. They visited an old high school friend, Margaret Martinitz, and did some sightseeing.

Congratulations and apologies to Carl Riffel. He took reserve champion with his breeding gilt at the county fair, but his accomplishment was not recognized in last week's Tampa news.
