Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Christina M. Novak, 40, 409 Main, Tampa, was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango at 4:38 a.m. May 26 westbound on Mustang Road near 140th when a deer ran in front of the vehicle. Novak applied the brakes and slid sideways into a north ditch. The vehicle rolled onto its right side. Passengers in the vehicle were Jeff T. Soyez, 31, 219 N. Washington, Hillsboro, and Thomas J. Langley, 47, 302 Grand, Hillsboro. Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Duane McCarty reported Langley was injured but not transported.

Rusty A. Entz, 26, 271 Old Mill Road, Peabody, was eastbound on 40th near Old Mill at 9:05 a.m. May 26 in a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup when the vehicle entered a north ditch. The driver tried to pull the vehicle back to the road but was unable to avoid hitting a bridge. There were no injuries and damages of more than $1,000 were reported by sheriff deputy Jim Philpott.

Thomas E. Duggan, 72, 225 West Fifth, Tampa, was northbound on K-15 near 300th at 12:45 p.m. May 30 when a deer came from a west ditch and struck his vehicle, a 1993 Buick LeSabre. Dolores Duggan, 71, of the same address, was a passenger. Deputy Larry Starkey reported there were no injuries and damages were more than $1,000.

Kenneth J. Bowman, 50, 17 Lois Lane, Marion, was backing a 2003 Buick Century from a parking stall at 1:10 p.m. May 31 at The Big Scoop, 616 E. Main, Marion, when it struck a 1995 Buick LeSabre driven by Ira L. Penner, 85, 416 N. Freeborn, Marion. There were no injuries, reported Marion Police Officer Howard Kahler.

A hit-and-run accident occurred at 3 p.m. May 31 in the north parking lot at Marion Manor, 1500 E. Lawrence, Marion. Officer Kahler reported a 2006 Ford F-150 owned by Krueger and Sullivan Boiler Works Inc., Emporia, was parked in the lot when an unknown vehicle struck the left rear fender.

Candace R. Couts, 33, 904 240th, Hillsboro, was driving a 2005 Ford passenger car at 11 p.m. June 2 east on 190th near Remington, when a deer came from a north ditch and struck the driver's side door. Passengers were Alyssa Couts, 9, and Ashley Couts, 5, of the same address. There were no injuries, reported deputy Starkey, and damages were listed as more than $1,000.

Amy E. Reese, 38, 317 S. Roosevelt, Marion, was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile van June 3 when she backed from a driveway at her residence and struck a vehicle that was legally parked across the street. The parked vehicle was owned by George Ostrom of Caldwell. Payton Svitak, 1, 2855 Sunflower, Marion, was a passenger in the Reese vehicle. There were no injuries, reported Marion Police Officer Bob Soyez, and damages were listed as less than $1,000.

Stephen Jay Davidson, 50, Hutchinson, was loading a boat on a trailer at 2 p.m. June 7 at Cottonwood Point, Marion Reservoir, when the 1994 Chevrolet van that was pulling the trailer rolled backward into the water, becoming completely submerged. Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported there were no injuries and damages were listed as more than $1,000.

A 1994 Gleaner combine was driven by Stephen Glahn, 43, 1751 Nighthawk Road, Marion, at 7 p.m. June 10, and traveling south in the 800 block of Wilson Street, Hillsboro, when the header struck electrical meter boxes on a utility pole. Owner of the combine was Gary Helmer, 1652 Limestone, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Police Sergeant Chad Funk reported there were no injuries and damages to the combine and the city-owned boxes were less than $1,000.

Kevin E. Shore, 41, was southbound on Nighthawk at 10:55 a.m. Saturday in a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 truck when he pulled in front of a 2006 Volvo truck driven by Richard A. Visocky, 43, La Vista, Neb., that was eastbound on U.S.-50. Shore was extricated from the wreckage and flown to Wesley Medical Center by Mid-West Lifeteam. The Volvo truck was registered to Hill Brothers Transportation, Omaha, Neb. Visocky was not injured, reported deputy Philpott.
