Accidents reported
The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
Carol L. Craig, 45, Winfield, was northbound on K-15 near milemarker 114 in a 2000 Buick Park Avenue at 9:20 a.m. Feb. 6, when she lost control of her vehicle because of slush on the road. The vehicle entered a west ditch and struck a culvert. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
Deborah A. Wiles, 49, 103 W. Fourth, Ramona, was westbound on 340th Road near Upland in a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup at noon April 7, when the right tires went off of the roadway. The vehicle crossed a field entrance and the driver lost control, crossing the road, entering a south ditch, and overturning one time. The driver was transported by Tampa EMS to Herington Hospital, reported Deputy Philpott. No damage estimate was listed on the report.
Samantha K. Timmermeyer, 18, 307 N. Olive, Peabody, was on U.S.-50 near Pawnee Road in a 1996 Honda Accord at noon April 12, and turning left when a 1985 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by Jeryl D. Powers, 56, Wichita, struck the Honda from behind, causing the Honda to enter a north ditch. The pickup then was struck on the driver's side by a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Merissa L. Serrano, 19, Newton. The pickup ended up in the south ditch and the Lumina was in the north ditch. Passengers in the Honda were Jane A. York, 40, 1710 110th, Peabody, and Tammy Pickens, 36, Amanda Pickens, 13, and Lauren Pickens, 10, all of the same address as the driver. William A. Powers, 60, Wichita, was a passenger in the pickup and was transported by Marion EMS to Newton Medical Center. Passengers in the Lumina were Micheala J. Jaso, 10, and Khamarae Ramirez, 1, both of Newton. The pickup was registered to Melvin L. Stadel of Riley. The Lumina was registered to Joseph Jaso of the same address as the driver. Deputy Philpott reported damages were less than $1,000 and there were no other injuries.
Mark A. Penner, 43, 725 Old Mill Road, Peabody, was entering Peabody Country Club on 50th Road in a 1988 Ford pickup at 5:45 p.m. April 12, when a puppy that was in the vehicle jumped to the floor and got under the brake pedal which prevented the driver from applying the brakes, causing him to strike a 2002 Saturn SL that was parked and unoccupied. Bailey Penner, 38, of the same address, was a passenger in the pickup. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey reported the Saturn was owned by Cory W. Foth, 302 N. Vine, Peabody.
Kevin W. Loeffler, 49, Newton, was northbound on K-15 near 130th Road in a 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup at 3:50 p.m. April 15, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. The driver was not injured and damages were more than $1,000, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty.
Melinda S. Budde, 37, Newton, was eastbound on U.S.-50 in a 2004 Dodge Durango at 6:10 a.m. April 16, when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. The vehicle was registered to Mackey & Sons Inc. of Newton. Deputy Philpott reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.
A 1999 Dodge pickup, owned by James E. Clemmer, 601 Main, Tampa, was parked unoccupied near a curb on Main Street, Tampa, when the driver got out of the vehicle and left the vehicle in reverse or the vehicle jumped into reverse. The vehicle backed up, went across the street, and struck a building. Damages were more than $1,000 and no one was injured, reported Deputy McCarty.
Raymond H. Garner, 18, Wiggins, Miss., was northbound on U.S.-56/77 at the K-150 junction in a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup at 6:09 p.m. April 18, when a 2004 Honda passenger car, driven by Jerrold Wheeler, 63, Overland Park, was westbound on K-150 and crossing U.S.-56/77 and was struck on the driver's side by the pickup. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported the driver of the Honda failed to yield the right-of-way. The pickup struck a road sign and the Honda struck a fence. Passengers in the pickup were Douglas Garner, 46, of the same address. Prathiba Wheeler, 42, Tarra Wheeler, 9, and Priya Wheeler, 7, all of Olathe, were passengers in the Honda. Jerrold Wheeler was injured and transported by Florence EMS to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.
Charissa Guhr, 30, 112 S. Summitt, Goessel, was northbound on K-15 near K-215 in a 1998 Mazda pickup at 9:40 p.m. April 18, when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. Colton Guhr, 10, of the same address, was a passenger. Undersheriff Brazil reported the occupants of the car were not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.
