Accidents reported

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Margo D. Braly, 44, Wamego, was northbound on U.S.-77 in a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 16. Bo Jorden Newberry, 19, Hutchinson, was westbound on K-150 attempting to cross U.S.-77/56 in a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina, and failed to stop at stop sign and struck the Braly vehicle. Richard D. Braly, 47, of the same address, was a passenger. The Newberry vehicle was registered to Barton Newberry of the same address. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Hazel M. Hoffner, 62, 126 N. Freeborn, Marion, was backing from her driveway in a 2000 Buick Regal at 5:20 p.m. Nov. 13 and struck a parked vehicle. The vehicle, a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis, was owned by Jeffrey Tomlinson, 133 N. Freeborn, Marion. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion Police Officer Howard Kahler.

Hazel M. Hoffner, 62, 126 N. Freeborn, Marion, was southbound on Freeborn near Coble in a 2000 Buick Regal at 5:35 p.m. Nov. 13 when the vehicle jumped the curb, went through a yard, and struck a large evergreen shrub owned by Ronnie Lovelady, 755 S. Freeborn, Marion. Officer Kahler reported the driver was injured but the report did not indicate whether she was transported by ambulance.

Salvador M. Loreto, 38, Park City, was westbound on U.S.-50 near Union Road in a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup at 4 p.m. Nov. 29. The road was ice-covered which caused the vehicle to slide across the eastbound lane, entering the ditch headfirst, and rolled over one time. Juan Loreto, 35, Park City, was a passenger. There were no injuries and less than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Josh Whitwell.

Amanda Sue Ratzlaff, 26, 306 S. Kennedy, Hillsboro, was northbound on Indigo Road near 80th in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 29, when the wind blew the vehicle sideways on the ice and into a west ditch. Brekyn G. Ratzlaff, 2, of the same address, was a passenger. The accident was reported the following day to Marion County Sheriff Sergeant Jeff Soyez. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Rose A. Funk, 52, 102 E. Kansas, Lehigh, was eastbound on U.S.-56 near K-15 in a 1998 Buick Regal at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Methann N. Johnson, 17, 702 S. Cedar, Marion, was northbound on Nighthawk near 110th in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am at 10:30 p.m. Dec. 1, when two black cows were on the roadway. The vehicle struck one of the cows. Allison Meador, 18, 2068 Sunflower, Marion, and Clay Riggs, 18, 2392 U.S.-50, Florence, were passengers. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.

Doyle E. Furrer Jr., 27, 705 S. Washington, Hillsboro, was northbound on Eagle near 170th in a 1992 Ford Tempo at midnight Dec. 2, when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve, hit an embankment, and rolled at least one time. The driver was taken by Hillsboro EMS to Hillsboro Community Medical Center, reported Deputy Starkey.

Harold H. Bezdek, 58, 606 S. Washington, Hillsboro, was backing from his driveway in a 1975 GMC Sprint pickup at 3:55 p.m. Dec. 4, when the right rear of the vehicle struck the left front of a 1984 Ford LTD owned by Howard Hamm, 312 N. Washington, Hillsboro, that was parked on Washington Street. Hillsboro Police Officer David Funk reported there were no injuries and minor damage to the Ford.

James T. Dingler, 30, Council Grove, was making a left turn to an alley from the parking lot of Tabor College Library in a 2002 Ford Taurus at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 5, when his vehicle was struck by a 2004 Dodge Neon driven by Caleb G. Schroeder, 20, 706 W. B, Hillsboro. The left front of the Neon struck the right rear of the Taurus, reported Officer Funk. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Jason R. Mikesell, 24, Concordia, was westbound on U.S.-50 near milemarker 303 in a 1996 Kenworth tractor at 8:45 p.m. Dec. 5, when a deer ran in front of the vehicle and was struck. The semi was registered to Dooley and Townsdin LLC of Concordia. Deputy Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Gale R. Eitzen, 55, Valley Center, was backing out of a field entrance on 100th near Nighthawk Road in a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup at 1:55 p.m. Dec. 8. Stacy M. Hague, 18, 1332 100th, Peabody, was westbound on 100th in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am and swerved to miss the pickup. The Eitzen vehicle struck the Hague vehicle on the rear passenger's side. The Hague vehicle was registered to Robert D. Hague of the same address. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Philpott.

Shaun E. Whitesell, 42, Rose Hill, was traveling south on U.S.-77 near milemarker 98 in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup at 5:50 p.m. Dec. 9, when a deer entered the roadway and as struck. Bradley W. Talbott, 45, Wichita, was a passenger. Deputy Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
